The EMAT is an analysis tool that allows managers to easily convert the vehicle metrics accumulated by the GRIP system into simple and easy to use charts to show the results that the GRIP system is providing. It allows you to see where the programs successes are and where the possibility is for further improvement. The analysed data will help you decide if tweaking is required for the system itself or if additional GRIP options may further improve the reduction of idle. It will also provide you a tool for showing the results to senior officers requiring updates on accomplishments of the system.
There are two ways of using the EMAT tool.
- By simply copying down the data recovered from the GRIP screen from the info area manually, the information can be placed into the corresponding cells of the excel sheet and the graphs will populate automatically.
- By using the GDS (GRIP Diagnostic Software) the information can be created automatically to an excel sheet. It will also populate the VIN of the vehicle and apply it to the graphs directly. With this method you will require the purchase of the diagnostic cable and software.
By adding in the fields for liters per hour of idle, fuel cost, fuel type and the max idle setting, all of the charts will be populated.
Once you have populated the EMAT Data Sheet, each chart will provide you with vital information that can be used for several tasks. The following is a basic explanation of each graph.
- Vehicle Operations: This is a comparison of the vehicles overall usage in percentage. It measures the actual operating time, idling time and the monitoring time that the GRIP system has kept the vehicle off.
- Static Vehicle Analysis: This is a comparison of the actual idle versus the monitoring time while the vehicle is in Park or Neutral as a percentage.
- Idling Analysis: This is a breakdown percentage of where the existing idle comes from. Whether it has been to provide air conditioning, battery charging or for unknown reasons.
- Idle Time Comparison: This chart compares the actual idling in hours with the idle removed by the GRIP system as well as what the idling would have been if the GRIP was not installed.
- Operator Contribution to Idle: This shows the amount in hours that the operator(s) had allowed idling to occur by overriding the shut down process. It is calculated by the number of overrides and the Max Idle Time.
- Fuel Reduction: This chart shows the reduction of fuel in liters. The fuel used at idle must be entered on the Data Sheet.
- Fuel Savings: This chart shows the liters of fuel that has been saved by the GRIP system. Both the fuel used at idle and the cost per liter must be populated in the Data Sheet.
- Engine Wear Reduction: A statistic measure of the equivalent wear and tear reduction on the engine based on the reduced operation at idle.
- CO2 Savings: Based on the National figures for KG/Liter this chart is a comparison of actual C02 produced versus what has been removed by the GRIP system.
